1. About Us

"We," "us" or "our" means Friends of Lakewood Elementary School, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Dallas, Texas.

2. About This Privacy Policy

Your privacy is important to us, so we have developed this Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, and disclose your personal information. We collect personal information when you use our website, our registration and donation forms, our email and text message programs, and our other online and offline products, services and experiences (collectively, the "Services"). Please take a moment to read through this Policy in its entirety.

If you have any questions, concerns or complaints regarding this Privacy Policy or how we use your personal information, please contact us by email at info@foldallas.org.

3. What Personal Information We Collect and How We Collect It

We collect personal information that you provide directly to us.

Contact information. If you sign up to receive our newsletter, emails, or text messages, we will collect your name, email address, mailing address, phone number, and any other information needed to contact you about the Services.

Text message consent. If you choose to receive text messages from us, we collect your mobile phone number together with a record of your consent, including when and how you gave it. We collect a mobile number for text messaging only where you have separately and affirmatively agreed to receive text messages. Providing a phone number for another purpose, such as a program registration or an event roster, does not enroll you in text messages.

Payment information. To register for programs, make a donation, or order products through the Services, you will need to provide payment information. Your financial information is collected and stored by a third party payment processing company. Use and storage of that information is governed by the payment processor's applicable privacy policy.

Program registration information. When you register yourself or your child for one of our programs, we collect the information needed to run that program safely, which may include participant names, grade or age, emergency contacts, and medical or allergy information relevant to participation.

Survey information. You may provide us with other personal information when you fill in a form, respond to our surveys or questionnaires, provide us with feedback, participate in promotions, or use other features of the Services.

Communications information. We may also collect information during our communications with you, including information you send when you contact us by phone, email, or text message. This may include how you contacted us, your marketing preferences, and other information you choose to share.

4. How We Use Your Personal Information

We use the personal information we collect for the following reasons.

  • To send you our newsletter, emails, text messages, or other information about our programs and events, where you have asked to receive them.

  • To reply to your questions, inquiries, or service requests, and to send you notices, updates, and administrative messages.

  • To operate the programs and events you or your child register for, including communicating schedule changes, cancellations, and day-of logistics.

  • To process donations, registrations, and merchandise orders, and to fulfill member benefits.

  • To monitor and analyze trends, usage and activities in connection with our Services and to improve them.

  • To facilitate raffles, contests and promotions, and to process entries and provide prizes.

  • To detect, investigate and prevent fraudulent transactions and other illegal activity, and to protect the rights and property of our organization and the people we serve.

We may also use your personal information to fulfill our obligations under applicable law, or to carry out any other purpose described to you at the time your personal information was collected.

5. How We Share Your Personal Information

We do not sell your personal information.

We may share your personal information in the following ways.

  • With vendors, consultants, and other service providers who process your personal information on our behalf when they provide services to us, for example email and text message delivery, payment processing, registration platforms, data analytics, and financial services. These providers are permitted to use your information only to perform services for us.

  • Where we are legally required to disclose your personal information, for example to comply with a court order or a lawful request from law enforcement. In those circumstances we will disclose your personal information only if we have a good faith belief that disclosure is required under applicable legal obligations.

Text messaging and mobile information.

No mobile information will be sold or shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All of the categories of sharing described above exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent. This information will not be shared with any third parties.

We share mobile phone numbers only with the service providers that deliver our text messages on our behalf, and those providers are prohibited from using the information for any purpose other than delivering our messages.

6. Text Messages

If you opt in to receive text messages from us, we will send messages about our events and programs, including registration deadlines, day of logistics, schedule changes, and cancellations.

Consent to receive text messages is not a condition of registering for any program, making a donation, or purchasing anything from us. You may opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message from us. Reply HELP to any message for assistance. Message frequency varies, and message and data rates may apply.

Full details are in our SMS Terms & Conditions at https://www.foldallas.org/sms-terms

7. Children's Information

Our Services are directed to parents and guardians, not to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13, and we do not send text messages to children.

As part of registering for our programs, a parent or guardian may provide information about their child, such as name, age or grade, emergency contacts, and medical information relevant to the child's participation. We use that information only to operate the program the child is enrolled in and to communicate with the parent or guardian. We do not use children's information for marketing.

If you believe a child has provided us with personal information directly, please contact us at info@foldallas.org and we will delete it.

8. Your Marketing Choices

We will send marketing messages to you if you have asked us to send you information, registered for one of our programs or events, made a donation, or provided your details when you entered a raffle or registered for a promotion. If you opt out of receiving marketing messages, we may still send you non promotional messages about a program you or your child are registered for.

We will ask for your consent before we share your personal information with any third party for that third party's direct marketing purposes.

You may unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link included in every message. To stop receiving text messages, reply STOP to any message from us. You can also ask us to stop sending you marketing messages at any time by contacting us at info@foldallas.org.

9. How We Protect Your Information

We maintain reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards designed to protect the personal information we hold against loss, misuse, and unauthorized access or disclosure. Access to personal information is limited to the volunteers and service providers who need it to do their work. Payment information is handled by our payment processors and is not stored by us.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Retention of Your Data and Deletion

Your personal information will not be kept longer than is necessary for the specific purpose for which it was collected.

When we decide how long to keep your information, we consider the amount, nature, and sensitivity of the personal information, the potential risk of harm from unauthorized use or disclosure, why we need it, and any relevant legal requirements, such as legal retention and destruction periods.

The foregoing will not prevent us from retaining personal information where necessary to comply with our legal obligations, to file or defend a legal claim, or for evidentiary purposes.

Details of retention periods for different categories of personal information are available on request using the contact details in the "Contact Us" section below.

11. Your Privacy Rights

You may ask us to do any of the following, and we will respond in accordance with applicable law.

  • Access the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it.

  • Ask us to delete your personal information.

  • Ask us to stop sending you marketing emails or text messages.

  • Withdraw your consent at any time, where we collected and processed your personal information on the basis of that consent. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that already took place.

To make a request, contact us using the details in the "Contact Us" section below.

We may modify this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we update it, we will change the effective date at the top of this page and, where the changes are significant, take appropriate measures to inform you.
